Friends of the Urban Forest

They are a San Francisco organization whose mission and activities are much like those of Tree Fresno. The site contains links to their informative newsletter.

The National Tree Trust

National Tree Trust is a Washington DC based organization whose goal is to encourage tree education and planting in communities throughout the United States.

Shinzen Japanese Garden

Visit the website for beautiful Shinzen Garden in Fresno’s Woodward Park. The site contains maps to and of the garden, membership information, and many photographs of a place many consider to be one of Fresno’s crown jewels.

San Joaquin River Parkway

This is the website of the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust. It features maps of the proposed parkway, photographs of the river environment, membership information, and news of the Parkway Trust’s current activities.

Tree Foundation of Kern

Tree Foundation of Kern is the tree planting organization in Kern County. Their website contains job descriptions for Fifty Careers In Trees.

Urban Forest Ecosystems Institute

The Institute is based at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. The SelecTree link takes you to a huge database of trees useful in California landscaping. Knowing the common name of a tree can take you to its soil, water and sun exposure requirements, as well as information about its fruit, leaves, litter, and how well its root system gets along with pavement.

Treelink.org

This website is a clearinghouse packed with information about trees, urban forest issues, community organizing resources, tree science and education. Funded by a grant from the National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council (part of USDA’s Forest Service), this has the breadth and scope of an encyclopedia of trees.

ACTrees

Mission Statement: To support grassroots, citizen-based nonprofit organizations dedicated to urban and community tree planting, care, conservation, and education.
History: The Alliance for Community Trees was incorporated in 1993 as a problem-solving center for leaders of community-based urban forestry groups. Its founders shared a vision of healthy, functioning urban ecosystems nurtured by a broad base of community stewards. Today, ACT is a growing coalition of 100+ organizations involved in grassroots community greening, public education, policymaking, and other activities supporting better urban forest stewardship.

San Joaquin Valley Urban Forest Council (SJVUFC)

The SJVUFC, a regional council of the Urban Forest Council, is made up of municipal, nonprofit and industry groups from Stockton to Bakersfield that are interested in promoting sound urban forestry practices throughout the valley.

List of Arborists

The following people are Certified Arborists and members of the International Society of Arboriculture.

By providing this list, Tree Fresno is not providing a recommendation about the company or their services. As Certified Arborists, they have the knowledge of proper tree care.

None of them advertise "Topping" in their phone book advertisement as one of the services that they provide.

Topping destroys the natural shape of the tree and jeopardizes it health, so it is not an acceptable method of pruning shade trees.

For more information about pruning, contact the Tree Fresno office at 559/221-5556
